"So you assumed Raphael was the angriest...? Why do you think Castiel wanted you to have that particular one?"

One could spend years trying to unravel the mystery that was Castiel.

"I think he's mad at me." Thobari flinched, shuffling the kitten into his other hand.

It's been a while since they spoke, for one. Though maybe that had to do with it?

"I'm not sure what I did though..."

From:

"Mad at you..."

Spencer stared at the kitten squirming in his hand.

"You two have an odd relationship."

From:

"Yes, I agree..." Another sigh, and Thobari scratched the kitten's eck, trying to calm it down.

"I know it's a bit foolish to worry about a ghost, but I can't seem to help it. Ten years ago, it was like this as well."

From:

"Being compassionate means you're human, Thobari."

He reached out and stroked the kitten's side, pulling his fingers back when the kitten tried to scratch at him as well.

"Yes. Well. If you stick around for a little bit longer maybe you'll get to meet Kate..."

From:

"Perhaps. If that's the case, then being human has always been a weakness of mine." Thobari chuckled a bit, pulling the kitten away to avoid anyone else suffering the wrath of its teeny claws.

"Oh? Is she here as well?"

From:

"Humanity's a weakness in many of us. But it's a good weakness to have."

He smiled slightly.

"Yes, she's just finishing up some paperwork. She said she'd be up in a minute. How's your vacation been so far?"

From:

"That's certainly true."

"I'd love to meet her." He scratched the kitten's back again, earning him a tiny bite. "My vacation's been going quite well, actually. Nothing too out of the ordinary..."

Aside from the cat, of course. And Kallen visiting.

Kate could hear low voices as she approached Spencer's door and knocked.

From:

"That's probably her..."

He opened up the door and grinned at her.

"Hey... Kate this is one of my oldest friends, one of the Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers, Thobari Kumohira.."

He turned to Thobari.

"And this is.. Kate Beckett, my TA and... my girlfriend.."

The words felt strange coming out of his mouth. He awkwardly put his hand on Kate's hip, then took it off.

Thobari just smiled. It was sweet, really sweet. And hey, good for Spencer! It's about time he got himself a girlfriend.

"It's very nice to meet you, Miss Beckett." He switched the cat over to his left hand and held his right out to shake.

Kate vaguely recognized Thobari as a younger Gryffindor during her time at Hogwarts.

She shook his hand, grimacing a bit as the kitten in his other hand hissed at her.

"Please, call me Kate. I actually think I've seen you before. I was in Gryffindor too, though a few years ahead you and Spencer."

From:

Spencer smiled at the two of them.

I hope they get along... I don't see why they wouldn't though.

From:

"Oh, alright. Kate, then. I thought you looked familiar."

Thobari laid the kitten onto his chest (the kitten did not seem happy about it) and grimaced as it stuck his claws into his shirt.

"Please don't mind him. He's... irritable."

Kate shifted her eyes between Thobari, the kitten, and Spencer.

"Not all of the kittens are...irritable, are they?"

From:

"I don't think so....."

Although Descartes had been keeping her distance from them.

"Well, he wouldn't be 'Raphael' if he weren't, I suppose."

Thobari sighed. He'd say Castiel had a cruel sense of humor, but then that would imply he actually had one.

From:

"Raphael, huh?"

She moved her hand to allow the kitten to smell her. When it seemed that the kitten had decided not to attack, she reached to scratch his head.

"Do you have healing powers, like the archangel? Or a buddy named Tobias?"

At the mention of the name "Tobias", every bit of color drained from his face.

I could have used a Raphael those days.

He closes his eyes and says so softly under his breath that it's barely audible. "No, God is not good sometimes."

Kate glanced at Thobari, and reached a tentative hand to Spencer's arm.

"Spencer? Are...Is everything okay?"

From:

He blinked himself back to reality, pushing those memories away.

"Oh. Yes, I'm fine."

He gently rubbed her lower back.

The cat didn't seem to mind the scratching at first, but it didn't take long for it to try to bite Kate again, so Thobari pulled him back... only to have it bite him instead. Honestly...

"He's definitely not very angelic," he mumbled, before noticing Spencer's about-face. He... definitely didn't look alright. Was something wrong?

Maybe, for once, it'd be better not to pry. Especially not in front of Spencer's girlfriend.

Kate opened her mouth to argue, but Spencer most definitely was not fine, but she noticed how uncomfortable Spencer looked, and decided to drop the subject.

She leaned into Spencer and smiled.

He smiled.

"I'm so glad that you two got to meet... it's been tough for Kate coming in the summer, right as everyone left..."
